Author Reading and Signing with Donna Marie Merritt - No Winter Maintenance: Pass at Your Own Risk
Donna Marie Merritt returns to the Hickory Stick Bookshop on Saturday, May 6th at 3pm to read from and sign copies of her sixth book of poetry, No Winter Maintenance: Pass at Your Own Risk.
Donna Marie Merritt’s sixth book of poetry begins with her husband’s infidelity and makes clear from the start that no woman (certainly not this poet) will put up with that. Searching for answers and navigating new territory alone, Merritt’s poems sing out that strong women (and men) may bend, but they won’t break. This collection of sixty poems includes a wide range of reflections and observations about society, human behavior, and the healing gift of nature.
“When I read the spare, utterly dignified and beautifully crafted poems in Donna Marie Merritt’s introspective and worldly collection, No Winter Maintenance, I couldn’t help but think of the evocative and understated poems of Kobayashi Issa or Tu Fu” —Bruce Cohen, author of Imminent Disappearance, Impossible Numbers, and Panoramic X-Rays.
“... sink down in your favorite chair by the fireplace, and open your copy of No Winter Maintenance.... Let these poems, which somehow manage the difficult trick of being both wise and wickedly funny, remind you of why we are so lucky to be here, and here together” —George Bilgere, Pushcart Prize-winner, author of six books, including Imperial.
Donna Marie Merritt is the author of six books of poetry . . . No Winter Maintenance: Pass at Your Own Risk (2017), We Walk Together (2015), Her House and Other Poems, (2013), What’s Wrong with Ordinary? Poems to Celebrate Life (2012), Cancer, A Caregiver’s View (2011), and Job Loss, A Journey in Poetry (2010). Merritt's poems have also appeared in magazines, school reading programs, language arts books, and American Library Association’s Book Links, along with anthologies such as Yale Medical Group's Caduceus, the Garbanzo Literary Journal, and for children, National Geographic's Book of Nature Poetry and Little, Brown's One Minute Till Bedtime.
